In the linen laundry industry, the service life and cleanliness of the linen directly affect the service quality and operational costs of the laundry plants. However, in the actual laundry process, several major problems often occur: decreased fiber, damage to linen, yellowness, and grayness. This not only causes a higher frequency of changing linen and a rise of costs but also causes customers’ complaints due to the unqualified linen. This article will deeply analyze these problems and use professional laundry products and standards to provide targeted solutions for laundry plants so as to improve the washing quality and linen utilization rate.
If linen has problems like brittleness, tearing, and damage, it is mainly due to improper use of detergents and non-standardized washing operations.
Improper Use of Laundry Chemicals
The improper use of laundry chemicals is the main reason for the decreased strength of linen fiber.
● Excessive concentration of chemicals
If bleaching agents (chlorine bleach, oxygen bleach) have a high concentration, or the dosage of acidic chemicals is over the tolerance of the linen, it will directly damage the molecular structure of the cotton and chemical fibers, and make fibers lose elasticity and toughness. If the pH value of the main wash process is not controlled well (too high or too low), or the linen stays in a strongly alkaline and high-temperature environment, the aging of fibers will speed up. The impact on cotton linen is especially obvious. Toughness after washing and easy damage caused by tearing easily occur on them.
● Laundry chemical residues
The rinsing part is not enough, so chemical residues are still attached to the gaps of linen fibers. After long-time use, they will continuously corrode fibers and cause a decrease of fiber strength. If hotel towels are left with detergent for a long time, they will change from soft and absorbent to stiff and rough, and eventually, the edges will be damaged.
Improper Washing Operation
Details in the operations will intensify wear of linen by physical actions.
● Unreasonable settings of parameters
If the water level in the washing machine is too low, linen will be not able to fully stretch out in the drum, and the friction between fibers will doubles.
If the spinning speed during dehydration is too fast, the linen fiber will easily break because of the strong centrifugal force.
If the drying temperature is too high or the drying time is too long, fibers will lose moisture, shrink, and become brittle. Tearing easily occurs in the following use.
● Lax process control
If the washing time is too long, the linen will overreact in the use of laundry chemicals, so that the fiber structure will be damaged.
If the drum doesn’t rotate normally in the bleaching process, linen will become locally brittle and form damaged spots after it contacts the high-concentration bleaching agents. If linens are not sorted by materials and thickness, thin linen will be squeezed, hooked, and damaged due to the mixed washing of thick linen and thin linen.
Solutions

It is suitable for all colors of bed sheets, curtains, towels, tablecloths, and clothes. It is especially suitable for linen that is sensitive to alkalinity.
● Dosage and operation
Use 60 to 80 grams per 10 kg of dry fabrics.
The main wash temperature should be at 40 to 65℃, and the main wash cycle should be at 15 to 20 minutes. This product can be used in combination with auxiliary products such as ammonia source powder, oxygen bleach powder, and emulsifiers to improve stain removal effectiveness. However, it must be added strictly according to the recommended ratio to avoid excessive concentration.
