How to Remove Drag Marks from Linen in Laundry Plants

When the laundry plants wash hotel bed sheets, duvet covers, and pillowcases, they often see a kind of special stain: drag marks. Using the normal way to remove them is very difficult. Using high-concentration chemical solvents or excessive mechanical force to rub or brush the stains will severely do harm to the linen and cause damage. As a result, this kind of stain gives the laundry operators a headache.

Then let’s briefly introduce the introduction process of the drag marks and how to remove them.

Reasons for Formation

● In hotels, some customers may stand on the towels to clean their shoes, or the cleaners use the linen to clean the table, so that this kind of stain will form.

● After the linen enters the hotel, dragging the linen during the sorting process will lead to the linen having friction with the ground, so as to form drag marks.

● In laundry plants, linen cart may run over the linen so that the drag marks may form under the wheels of the linen carts.

Reasons Why It is Hard to Remove Drag Marks

The reasons why the drag marks are difficult to remove are related to their formation. From the above analysis, we can see that drag marks form when dry linen is in friction. Then, static electricity will also appear with friction. It it easier for linen with static electricity to absorb dust and stains. Also, stains will be attached to the linen closely and are hard to be removed.

The drier the fabric surface is, the more charges are generated by friction, the greater the gravitational force between the charges will be, and the more firmly the stains will combine with the linen.

Chemical Detergent Used to Remove Drag Marks

After knowing the details, we can choose a proper chemical detergent according to its principles.

If you want to remove the dust and dirt particles, you should remove the static electricity between stains (dust and others) and linen. If there is no static electricity between dust and surface of fiber, then the dust will be easily removed.

❑Among the frequently used chemical materials, there are several proper detergents:

dry cleaning soap oil, caustic soda aqueous solution, powerful laundry powder, potassium permanganate solution, and oxalic acid solution. (from strong to weak)

Solutions

 Slight drag marks

Use hot water to completely dissolve the powder →immerse the part of linen with stains in the solvent for 10 minutes →use a brush to slightly brush it →the stains are removed.

 Stubborn drag marks

Immerse the linen→apply the dry cleaning soap oil to the stains→after 20 minutes, brush it → put it in the washing machine to wash → the stains are removed.

Only if the most of stains are removed or lightened, the linen can be washed in the washing machine with a normal washing program. The rest will be removed during the process of washing.
