The tunnel washers' efficiency has something to do with the speed of inlet and drainage. For tunnel washers, efficiency should be calculated in seconds. As a result, the speed of water-adding, drainage, and linen-unloading has an impact on the overall efficiency of the tunnel washer. However, it's usually overlooked in laundry factories.
Impact of Inlet Speed on Tunnel Washer Efficiency
To make a tunnel washer have a quick water intake, typically people should increase the diameter of the inlet pipe. Most brands of inlet pipes are 1.5 inches (DN40). While CLM tunnel washers' inlet pipes are 2.5 inches (DN65), this not only contributes to quicker water intake but also reduces the water pressure to 2.5–3 kg. The water intake will be very slow, and more water pressure will be needed if the inlet pipe has a diameter of 1.5 inches (DN40). It will reach 4 bar to 6 bar.
Impact of Drainage Speed on Tunnel Washer Efficiency
Similarly, the drainage speed of tunnel washers is also important for their efficiency. The drainage pipes' diameter should be increased if you want faster drainage. Most tunnel washers' drainage pipes' diameter is 3 inches (DN80). The drainage channels are mostly made from PVC pipes whose diameter is less than 6 inches (DN150). When several chambers discharge the water together, the water drainage will not be smooth, so as to have negative impacts on the overall efficiency of the tunnel washer system.
The CLM drainage channel is 300 mm by 300 mm and is made from 304 stainless steel. Additionally, the drainage pipe has a 5-inch (DN125) overall diameter. These all ensure CLM tunnel washers' quick water drainage speed.
Calculation Example
3600 seconds/hour ÷ 130 seconds/chamber × 60 kg/chamber = 1661 kg/hour
3600 seconds/hour ÷ 120 seconds/chamber × 60 kg/chamber = 1800 kg/hour
Conclusion:
A 10-second delay in each water intake or drainage process results in a daily reduction of 2800 kg in output. With linen in the hotel weighing 3.5 kg per set, this means a loss of 640 linen sets per 8-hour shift!
