Laundry plants should have a process of neutralization when washing linen, while many laundry plants pay no attention to neutralization. In fact, improper neutralization will still have an impact on the linen washing.
pH Requirements
Linen in laundry plants should undergo pre-wash, main wash, rinse, and neutralization. The purpose of neutralization is to make the pH of the linen meet the standard requirements. In China, the linen that babies use and the fabrics that directly contact humans’ bodies should have a pH from 4.0 to 8.5. The hotel linen’s pH should be 5.5 to 8, and the towels should be softened as well.
● In the neutralization process, neutralizing acid is used. In addition, when towels are in neutralization process, softener should be added. After that, the towels should be highly dehydrated.
Laundry plants need to connect detergents, washing processes, and production tasks. As a result, some laundry problems will occur when laundry plants do not operate according to the standards.
Residue Does Harm to Skin
After dehydration, the bed sheets and duvet covers still contain water. If the neutralization doesn’t comply with the standards, then the linen after neutralization still has alkali residue. Then, after the ironing, it will evenly adhere to the linen, making the linen’s pH higher. When this kind of linen comes into contact skin, customers with sensitive skin may have an allergic reaction, especially children. If bad neutralizing acid is chosen, the product after neutralization will have a worse impact on the skin. In seasons with high temperatures, this condition is more obvious.
Residue Does Harm to Towels
Some laundry plants choose cheap and nasty softeners to reduce the laundry costs. The impurity content of this softener is high. Towels after water extraction still have 50% to 60% water. As a result, the towels after drying will have softener residue and irritate for skin. In addition, after the softener residue accumulates, the towels will turn yellow and stiff. The reduction of brightness and whiteness adds difficulty to the next wash and has a bad impact on washing quality.
Solutions
To reduce such conditions, laundry plants can adopt the following methods.
● Laundry plants should choose a neutralizing acid that is safe for both the environment and human bodies. The neutralization should be after the second rinse. After the neutralization, there should be another rinse for the linen to reduce the residue of the neutralization.
● When treating towels and other fabrics, people should choose the technology of “first neutralization and then softening”. That is, neutralize the fabric first and then use a medium dehydration program to drain water to reduce the residue. After that, a softener can be added to soften the towels.
● A high-quality softener should be chosen. The usage should be controlled by the requirements to soften the towel. This ensures that towels have excellent fluffiness and water absorption, while reducing the irritation of cationic surfactants to the skin and enhancing the comfort of towel use.
All the above are some suggestions for linen neutralization.
