The Dehydration Rates of Water Extraction Presses in Tunnel Washer Systems

In tunnel washer systems, the main function of water extraction presses is to dehydrate the linens. Under the premise of no damage and high efficiency, if the dehydration rate of a water extraction press is low, the moisture content of the linens will increase. Therefore, more ironing and drying equipment and corresponding employees will be needed. It can be seen that the water extraction press is an important factor affecting whether the tunnel washer system is energy-saving and efficient. 

Types of Water Extraction Presses

At present, there are two types of water extraction presses on the market.

These two types of water extraction presses have relatively large differences in design and structure, which is reflected in the dehydration rate. The maximum water bag pressure of a light-duty press is generally 40 Bar, and the moisture content of the towel after dehydration is generally 55%-60%.

Pressure Design

Most of the Chinese equipment on the present market are light-duty presses, while CLM has heavy-duty presses with a design pressure of 63 Bar. In actual use, the pressure can reach 47 Bar, and the moisture content of the towel after dehydration is generally around 50%.

Case Study: Laundry Factory Example

Take a laundry factory whose daily output is 20 tons for example, the towels take the proportion of 40%, that is 8 tons. A 10 % increase in the moisture content of the towels means 0.8 tons of water every day. According to the current tumble dryers, evaporating 1 kg of water requires 3 kg of steam so evaporating 0.8 kg of water requires 2.4 tons of steam. Now, the average price of steam in China is 280 RMB/ton. As a result, the additional cost of steam costs is 672 RMB per day and the annual additional cost is about 24,5300 RMB.   

The above calculation shows that the CLM heavy-duty water extraction press can save about RMB 245,300 per year for a medium-to-large laundry plant that washes 20 tons of hotel linens per day. The saved costs are all the profits of the laundry factory. The energy-saving effect is very obvious.

Influence on Tumble Dryer Efficiency

Also, the pressure of the water extraction presses has an impact on the tumble dryers’ efficiency. The lower the moisture of the towels, the less the steam consumption and the higher the drying efficiency.
